4 Benefits Of Heated Self-Storage Units
Heated self-storage units may cost you a little bit more each month than unheated units, but there are several benefits to having one. You may also have specific reasons why your unit needs heating. If you are considering a heated unit over an unheated one, but you are just not sure it is right for you, here are some of the benefits of a heated unit.
1. Anything That Could Be Damaged by Freezing Cold Is Protected
If you live where either the nighttime temperatures or the seasonal temperatures dip below freezing, some of your belongings may not handle the cold. In fact, they could be badly damaged by the freezing temperatures. One example is an antique automobile. Cold temperatures can kill its battery and cause fluids to freeze and expand inside different parts of the engine and the car. Your attempt to store and protect it over the winter is thwarted because you chose an unheated unit instead of a heated one. Placing all of your most valuable and temperature-sensitive stuff into a heated storage unit means that you never have to worry about anything being affected or destroyed by freezing cold weather.
2. You Will Not Freeze When You Bring Items to Your Unit
Sometimes you just have to put stuff in storage during the winter. It may seem like a strange time to do something like this, but maybe you have some things that are just crowding up your space, and it cannot wait until spring to put them into storage. In this instance, you will not freeze trying to get your things into storage because the unit is warm.
3. Heated Usually Means Cooled Too
If a proprietor takes the time to heat his/her storage units, he/she probably also cools them as well. Temperature-controlled storage all year long brings in the renters, and since the proprietor is not going to heat things during the hot months, it makes sense to make these units cool during summer. Just verify with the proprietor before you rent if the temperature is controlled only in winter or all year long.
4. Heated Means the Building Is Sealed
A lot of outdoor storage units are not exactly sealed. Bugs and other pests will still find a way inside. Heated units have to be sealed to avoid the loss of heat to the outdoors. Because great care is taken to seal the buildings against loss of heat (and/or cooling!), it means that the buildings are adequately sealed against bugs and rodents as well.
